Azem: Private sector workers are being treated as “slave” by Government

Kosovo Private Sector Union Chairman Yusuf Azemi, while talking about long public sector holidays because of the holidays, has said private sector workers have remained at no one's mercy. In a direct line to RTV Dukagjini, Azem has said the current government in charge of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is treating as slaves to private sector workers.

We have a problem with why the labour law is not being respected where in moments where we as workers work on weekends or on holiday days we have to be paid just as it is with the labour law. We are sanctioned even when the government shared tools for the public sector and not for the private one. We can say that the government employees of the private sector are treating them like slaves”, he said.

“Kosovo private sector workers are left to no one's mercy”, Azemi added.

Azem also stressed that during the past three months alone, there are nine private sector workers who have lost their lives at the workplace.

“We are very engaged as this government that has promised pay raise, creating much better conditions, now in the last three months alone, 9 private sector workers have lost their lives. We wanted to have a special fund because in these cases most of those who are losing their lives are poor workers”, he concluded.
