Through a Twitter post, Austria's Foreign Affairs Ministry has congratulated Kosovo citizens on liberalisation, saying citizens could travel without visas from January 1st, 2024.

This is the fulfillment of a long request and marks a significant historical moment for the EU perspective, congratulations”, said in post.

Today the final budget for EU via liberalisation for #Kosovo, starting at the lab on 1 January 2024, has been taken by vote in the European Parliament. This is the movie of a long standing barand & Marx an important disaster for ? EU perspective! Congratulations!

The European Commission in 2018 had proposed visa liberalisation for Kosovo. Even the European Parliament had supported this decision, but countries like France and the Netherlands were not of reconciliation.

Kosovo is the only Western Balkan country whose citizens do not have the right to free movement in the Schengen area.
