They are followed by citizens from Northern Macedonia with 602 applications, citizens from Serbia with 481 applications, citizens from Kosovo with 304 applications -- from Bosnia and Herzegovina with 142 applications -- while the smallest number of asylum applications are served by Montenegrin citizens with only 23 persons.
In January of this year, the number of asylum applications from Albanians in European Union countries was about 900, out of which about 700 requests for the first time and about 200 as repeat requests.
Even the annual indicators of the European Agency for Asylum in 2022 spoke that in the countries of the Union, more applicants from the Western Balkans were evident, especially Albania, Northern Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo.
The Agency's report in 2022 marked 13,043 asylum applications by Albanian citizens from 11,210 that were marked in 2021 and 6,498 in 2020.
But in 2022 the number of asylum applications marked record numbers by Albanian citizens in the United Kingdom, where about 16,000 asylum applications were reported.
The European Union Agency for Asylum's latest report estimates that “in the second half of 2022 and early 2023, a sharp increase in international protection applications is taking place in the European Union, driven by conflicts, political and social unrest, economic hardship and food uncertainty. “

Applications by the Russians in February were 2 100, which have tripled compared to February of last year, as well as Iranians with 1600 applications that have doubled compared to the same period in 2022.
