As for 2022, over 13 thousand Albanians sought asylum in one of the European Union countries.

Albanians were at the top of the list of asylum seekers from the Balkans in European Union countries even for February of this year.

The latest European Union Agency for Asylum report shows there were few 845 Albanians applying for asylum in one of the Union countries.

The two rank Macedonians with 602 applications -- 243 short of the demands of Albanian citizens.

Kosovo ranks fourth with 304 applications, while preceded by Serbia with 481 EU asylum requirements

There have been 142 asylum applications from Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the smallest number of applications occupying them from Montenegro with only 23.

The January report showed that the number of asylum applications by Albanians in European Union countries was about 900, of which, 700 for the first time and about 200 as repeated requests.

Even annual indicators of the European Agency for Asylum in 2022 examine Albania as the country whose asylum demand is higher.

According to the report, 13,043 asylum applications were signed in 2022 by Albanian citizens, 1833 applications more than a year ago respectively.

In the same year, the number of asylum applications marked the record by Albanian citizens in the United Kingdom, where about 16,000 applications were reported.

According to the EU Agency report, this high demand is linked to full, social, economic difficulties, food uncertainty, as well as to unrest or conflict.

Refugees from Afghanistan or Syria mainly receive positive answers for asylum, while only in February of this year a total of 81 thousand applications have been recorded, including citizens from Ukraine, Russia, Venezuela, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc. /Time News/
