Violence between the army and a paramilitary group called the Fast Support Forces has already entered on the third day.

Nearly 100 people have been killed, said a medical union, while the number of injured has exceeded 1,100.

Both warring sides claim to control key locations in the capital, Cartum.

They have declared a temporary ceasefire Sunday to allow the evacuation of the wounded, but it is not clear how much they have maintained him.

The Jews have warned that the situation in hospitals in Cartum is extremely difficult and that fighting is preventing personnel and medical supplies from reaching injured people.

Fighting is part of a vicious power effort within the country's military leadership, which has escalated into violence among rival factions.

The two men who are at the centre of this -- Abdel Fattah al-Buhan, leader of the ruling Sovereign Council, and Mohammed Hamad Dazalo, deputy chairman of the Council and leader of the Speed Support Forces -- disagree about how the country should go towards civil rule.

The main disagreements have to do with plans to inform the Force of Fast Support in the Army and with who will then lead the new force.

Sudan has been led by generals since the authoritarian president, Omar al-Bashir, has collapsed through coup in 2019.

Monday morning, the Fast Support Forces said they have occupied several important locations in the capital of Cartumi, including the presidential palace and the neighbouring town of Omdurman, as well as the Merowe Airport in the country's north.

But, according to some later reports, the military has regained control of the airport.

The military has denied that the Fast Support Forces have taken key points in the capital, while witnesses in this country have told Reuters news agency that the military appears to be advancing, following the air strike of rival group bases.

The international community has called for an end to violence immediately.

The main Arab states and the US have called for talks that would lead to the restoration of a civil government, while the African Union has announced it is sending its top diplomat, Moussa Faki Mahamat, to Kartum, to try to negotiate a ceasefire.

According to an Egyptian Presidency statement, Egypt and South Sudan have also been offered as mediators among warring factions.

The World Health Organization has said that more than 83 people have been killed and more than 1,100 injured across Sudan, since violence has erupted, but it has not specified how many civilians have been killed in combat.

Among those killed are three members of the UN World Food Programme staff, which has already suspended its operations in Sudan.

Sudan state television reportedly has stopped broadcasting, but it is not clear what caused the decision.
