Republican Donald Trump, who is running to regain the White House in the 2024 elections, said through a statement on his network “Truth Social” that: “this is a political persecution and election intervention at the highest level in history”.
Former President Trump said in the statement that the radical leftist Democrats tried by every means to undermine his presidency from the moment he was declared presidential election winner.
This is the first case in US history of raising criminal charges against a former American president and a blow to Mr. Trump's efforts to regain the White House in the 2024 elections.
The Act was confirmed Thursday by Joe Tacopina, a lawyer of Mr. Trump, and others who have knowledge of this issue but are not authorised to discuss charges that have not yet been made public.
Voting on raising charges against 76-year-old Trump is an extraordinary event after years of investigation into its relations in the business and policy field.
Establishing the indictment will likely spur critics who say Mr. Trump did manipulations until the White House is taken, but on the other hand, it will engage his supporters, who say Republican Trump is being unfairly targeted by a Democrat prosecutor.
Lawyer Tacopina said in a statement: “He has committed no crime and that we will strongly fight this political prosecution” in court.
Mr. Trump, who has dismissed the accusations and repeatedly attacked the investigation as politically motivated, is expected to be handed over to authorities next week, although details are still being processed, according to an anonymous person who has knowledge of the case.
