Shpend Ahmeti debates with Vuk Jeremic on NATO bombings: Serbian forces slit my aunt's son's throat

Former Pristina leader Shpend Ahmeti has responded to a statement by former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic on the 24th anniversary of the NATO bombings. Jeremic has written that some want to relativise NATO bombings as bombings against Slobodan Milosevic and not on Serbia and its people. According to Jeremic, this thing is false. [...]

Jeremic has written that some want to relativise NATO bombings as bombings against Slobodan Milosevic and not on Serbia and its people. According to Jeremic, this thing is false.

“This claim fell into the water in 2008, when in support of the unilateral declaration of independence in Pristina, key NATO countries became accomplices in trying to capture territory from what was definitely a democratic Serbia at the time”, Jeremic said, alluding to Kosovo.

That reaction has been responded to Ahmeti, who has published the photo of Ferdoje Cerkezi with empty chairs symbolising her husband and four sons, killed by Serb forces.

Ahmeti has written that many Albanian families have such stories.

He wrote that his aunt's son had been slit from the Serbian forces.

This lady down there is called the Cherkezie Farm. Her table is empty because Serbian forces killed her husband and four boys on 27 March 1999. If you visit us, I'll take you to her place. Every family has these stories. My aunt's son has been slit. His father, who did not want to leave his son to go with the strength that entered his home, took a bullet in his head. This “aggression” saved us. I don't blame all Serbs, nor do I hate Serbs. I want to live like good neighbors. I'm sorry about all the victims. It's harder for us to accept the plan, but we want to move towards the future and hope together with you”, Ahmeti wrote.

“I consider Kosovo Serbs as our citizens with whom we can and want to live together. If you don't want to, that's your decision. Of all of us who have lived in that Yugoslavia, we all agree on the end of that story, only Serbia does not. In our country they say that if three people say you're drunk, you better sit down. Enough nationalism and hatred, I will not let my children fear when they hear Serbian. And I don't want Serbian children to be afraid even in Kosovo. We've lost a lot. We have neither men nor time to lose, neither you nor we”, he continued
