Serbian List Loses Support

The “Bad politics in the last ten years” and “barricades in northern Kosovo” are some of the reasons why the Serbian List is losing the trust of some North Mitrovica residents. That this largest Serb party in Kosovo has lost support, a research of the non-governmental organisation, Active, shows the position of the Serb community in northern Kosovo. His results were published in early March, and of 350 respondents, only 2.4 per cent said they trust the Serbian List.
By 2013, when it was formed with official Belgrade's support, the Serbian List has received over 90 per cent of the vote in almost all elections.
However, observers from the European Union have said in their reports that this party “has monopolized political life among Serbs in Kosovo”. According to them, Serbian List candidates and activists have put pressure on voters.
Nikola, from North Mitrovica, says they have spent a certain period at the barricades, not only in the latter, but throughout the past year, and do not know what they achieved with them.
“We have lost confidence [in the Serbian List], especially because of the situation that was created, due to its leadership”, he said.
Groups of Serbian citizens, on July 31st and December 10th of last year, have set up barricades in northern Kosovo to reject implementation of the Kosovo government's decisions.
Ana from Leposaviqi is not satisfied with local government policy. According to her, “no more order and law”.
I don't work anywhere, mostly party people are employed, and so... The worst part is that there is no police, there is no law, there is no order, children are vulnerable”, she said.
In November last year, with the initiative of the Serbian List, members of the Serb community have left all Kosovo institutions in the north, due to the Kosovo Government's decision to reregister Serb-trading vehicles to those in Kosovo.
The resignations have also given the heads of northern Mitrovica, Leposaviqi, Zubin Potok and Zvecani all from the ranks of the Serbian List. Meanwhile, extraordinary local elections have been announced twice, but the Serbian List has refused to participate.
