In an interview for “Euronews”, Kurti has said the agreement has had to be signed at the February 27th meeting in Brussels, but, according to him, did not happen after Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, did not want to.
The executive head has now declared that Kosovo must normalise reports with Serbia.
The agreement was to be signed on February 27th. Unfortunately, the president of Serbia did not want to. To that end, this basic treaty, proposed by the 27 EU nations, is the basis for moving forward and we hope to finally reach it on March 18th”, Kurti has indicated.
He has said he will go to northern Macedonia with confidence and good will to normalise relations with Serbia.
Kosovo is a normal country, but has no normal relations with Serbia. In the last two years, we have had unprecedented economic and democratic progress in our country, which puts us in the direction of rule of law and human rights and growth in the top of the Western Balkans. However, I acknowledge that we must normalise relations and, to this end, this basic treaty that has been proposed by the EU, is a solid ground to move forward and we hope to finally achieve on March 18th”, Kurti added.
On February 27th, Kosovo and Serbia have agreed to the content of the European proposal, according to European Union officials. Discussions are continuing for the implementation plan.
To that end, leaders of the two states will meet on March 18th in Ohrid.
