His visit to Kosovo comes two days before the upcoming Kurti-Wucciq meeting, to be held Saturday in Ohrid, North Macedonia, ( writes newspaper 10).
Escobar before leaving for Kosovo, today it has held meetings in Serbia in an effort to convince the Serbian side to accept the European plan.
Escobar in Serbia held a media conference, where he spoke of his expectations from the Ohrid meeting. He said the agreement already on the table is one of the best opportunities to move the region forward.
The special envoy for the Western Balkans also said the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia could be reached by the end of this year.
I don't expect any signatures right now, but I hope for progress. The possibilities would be very positive for the” region, he said.
He also spoke about the issue of the association of Serb majority municipalities, saying that the association will take place, but the question is how soon this will happen and which model will be applied.
When I speak of this as a request, I don't want to provoke a confrontation or undermine it as a challenge. The fact is that association figures in the Brussels Agreement. It's part of the political and US conclusions. It's going to come true, the only question is how soon it's going to come true. The second part is what model will be applied. EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak gave several different examples of how this kind of community in the EU works, to grant minority rights to determine their own destiny, this should help bring the countries together and we would like one of those models to serve as a model for the” Association, Escobar said.
