The State Department senior official responsible for Europe, Karen Donfried, has decided to resign to her family. That's what they said from the State Department, showing that Donfried left an important diplomatic position empty, writes the Voice of America.
Donfried spent 18 months as Assistant Secretary of State and its service was marked by the biggest conflict in Europe of World War II and US efforts to form and consolidate a unified Western position in relation to Russia.
Karen Donfreed was one of the principal assistants of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and travelled to Europe to talk to American partners.
Last April, Donfried visited Western Balkan countries accompanied by US Special Envoy for the Balkans Gabriel Escobar.
She had discussed bilateral US-Kosovo and US-Serbia relations and dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia during her visit to Pristina and Belgrade. In Begorad, he had also spoken of Serbia's approach to EU sanctions against Russia. In Montenegro, during the same visit, she voiced support for “sovereign and inclusive Montenegro rooted in Euro-Atlantic institutions”.
