Faced with criticism and after a protest with the Government on Saturday, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti chose to spend Sunday in Tirana. There the atmosphere was quite different. Unlike Pristina, Kurti in the Albanian capital found support for the recently reached agreement in Ohrid with Serbian President Alexnadar Vuciq.
Upon arriving in Tirana, Kurti met with Albanian President Bajram Begaj.
As the Albanian head of state's press office, Begaj, after being informed in detail of the negotiations held with Serbia, welcomed <x0 lidership, the maturity and courage shown by Prime Minister Kurti and the Kosovo Republic of Kosovo negotiating team to accept the European plan, as well as to sign and implement it”.
Kurti later added to Albania's Assembly, to meet Albanian Chief Parliamentary Lindita Nikola, from which she also received support for the agreement.
We support dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia as the best and only way towards mutual recognition between the two countries, we assess the European Plan as a good starting point for dialogue, and we support the EU and US engagement in implementing the annex of this plan. Implementation of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia will contribute to strengthening stability in the Western Balkans and its Euro-Atlantic perspective.”, Nicolaus said after the meeting.
After two meetings, Kurti made lunch with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. From him, even more clearly and specifically, received support for implementing the Ohrid Agreement, discussing all details, Express writes.
Rama said he encouraged Kurti at the “to take further steps either to ensure Serb municipalities in the framework of association guaranteeing the alone of the Serb community, either for the necessary functioning of the Serbian Church in its Kosovo cult countries”.
“With the special friend, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, during today's lunch, where we discussed in detail the Ohrid Agreement and the further performance of its implementation process”, Rama wrote on Facebook.
“I expressed all my sympathy for Albin for the courage and realism with which it has taken important steps towards normalising relations with Serbia. I encouraged the prime minister to take further steps, whether to ensure Serb municipalities in the framework of association that guarantees only the management of the Serbian community, or to the necessary functioning of the Serbian Church in its places of worship in Kosovo, assuring him that in this not easy process he has my fuller support”, the Albanian prime minister added.
What did Kurt's office say?
The office of Kosovo's prime minister has announced two of Kurti's meetings in Tirana, him with Albanian President Bajram Begaj, and with Prime Minister Lindita Nikola.
With Begaj, Kurti was told that he had a discussion about the Vuchy meeting in Ohrid.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti announced President Begaj's agreement reached, its elements, and the constructive approach that Kosovo has attended at this meeting, but even during the entire process”, the KKM announced.
Vice President Begaj thanked Prime Minister Kurti for the visit, as he gave his assessment of the government's achievements and support for the stance and leadership shown in reaching the agreement on the annex of implementation of the European proposal, currently the Base Agreement. He also stressed his and Albania's support for Kosovo for its NATO membership”, the prime minister's Office announced.
Even with Nicholas, Kurti reportedly had a meeting at which he informed him of the recently reached agreement.
At this joint meeting, Prime Minister Kurti informed Prime Minister Nicolaus of the March 18th meeting in Ohrid of Northern Macedonia and of the agreement reached to implement the Base Agreement, which Mrs. Nicolaus named it a good step forward for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia and Kosovo's European road”, the ZKM reported.
Kurti has also planned to meet with Freedom Party leader Ilir Meta.
He has not wanted to speak to journalists in Tirana. They were told that he will do so after he completes all meetings.
