The call sparked the Israeli leader's reaction, who said he does not make decisions based on outside pressure, writes VOA.

Mr. Netanyahu postponed plans for changes Monday after tens of thousands went out to protest on the street. The White House had originally said that Mr. Netanyahu should seek a compromise on the matter.

But Mr. Biden went further in response to reporters Tuesday. “I hope he gives up on him,” said Mr. Biden, referring to the plan that would give the Israeli government greater control over the appointments at the country's Supreme Court.

Prime Minister Netanyahu reacted immediately by issuing a statement.

“Israel is a sovereign country making decisions on the will of its people and not based on outside pressures, including our best friends,” he said.
