Around 45,000 wanderers identified in Pristina

Citizens are now feeling threatened by wandering dogs in Kosovo, especially in the capital. The Food and Veterina Agency has identified about 4 thousand dogs who have been placed microchipates or registered. The presence of wandering dogs on the streets of Kosovo has become disturbing. Citizens have felt at risk many times and even under attack. A Pristina citizen, Driton Limani, says the municipality should take the initiative to accommodate these dogs.
I've encountered many situations, especially in winter times when they are hungry and attack. The Pristina municipality should not only treat but also house wandering dogs.
And the Food and Veterina Agency has been establishing microchips and dog registration since last year, whether it is a wanderer or an owner. This project would cover all expenses for those citizens who want to register their dog by the end of this year. So announced to Radio Kosovo agency spokesman Lamir Thaci, who said citizens have expressed interest in this regard.
“So far there are about 4 thousand dogs that have been identified, registered, so microchipates were placed and documents were given to”, Thaci said.
He said this project, which was implemented many years ago in EU countries, has for the main purpose the ban on breeding stray dogs as well as regulating the legal aspect of dog owners. Thaci said the exact number of stray dogs is unknown.
We've never dealt with research to determine the number of stray or owner dogs. We will identify and register all the animals announced by their owner”, he said.
From the information office in the Pristina municipality, through a written reply, they have indicated that the object for treating stray dogs is at the completion of the works.
And, after its completion, based on other procedures, the functionisation of the object will take place. But this center will not be a refuge.
