According to reports, a group of at least eight prisoners planned to escape the largest Macedonian prison through a tunnel they opened. The tunnel is about 40m long. The Interior Ministry adds that after learning that the group was planning to escape, it has carried out verifiable criminal-operative actions and delivered information and results to the relevant directorate.
The directorate reportedly searched the site as a potential tunnel and found the tunnel about 40m long. The tunnel is located near the facility used to store coal at a depth of about three feet [1 m] and a diameter of about 50 inches [80 cm].
Several plastic baskets in which ropes have been attached to the tunnel, which are used for digging soil and an electric cable with a lamp used for lighting the” tunnel, according to police.
In the Idrizovo prison, the Kumanovo Group, consisting mainly of Kosovo Albanians, also suffers the sentence. Some members of the Kumanovo Group have been sentenced to life in prison and some to 40 years in prison for the <x0-95 terrorism” in 2017.
