Zelensky to meet with Chinese president after peace proposal

Ukraine's president, Voldymur Zelensky, has said he plans to meet China's leader, Xi Jinping, to discuss Beijing's proposals to end the war in Ukraine. Speaking on the anniversary of Russian aggression in Ukraine, he said this proposal provides signs that China is involved in the quest for peace.
“I actually believe China will not send weapons to Russia”, he said.
China's plan calls for peaceful talks and respect for national sovereignty, the BBC writes.
However, the 12-point document does not specifically say that Russia should withdraw its troops from Ukraine and also condemns using “unilateral sanctions”, viewed as open criticism of Ukraine's allies in the West.
Chinese authorities have not so far responded publicly to Zelensky's call for a meeting with Ying.
Russia, meanwhile, accepted Chinese peace proposals. “We share the same views as Beijing”, the foreign ministry said in Moscow.
At the beginning of the week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Beijing is looking into the launch of Russia's weapons and ammunition -- a statement that was strongly condemned by Beijing. On Friday, US media again reported that the Chinese government is considering sending drones and artillery shells to Moscow.
Asked about the Chinese plan, American President Joe Biden told ABC News on Friday: <x0Putin is reading this out, so why should it be a good plan? I have not seen anything in the plan that can provide anything useful for anyone, rather than for Russia”, Biden said.
Chinese proposals were given following Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi's visit to Moscow, where he met with President Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday.
After the talks, Wang was quoted by Chinese state news agency “Xinhua”, saying Beijing wants to deepen political confidence and strengthen strategic co-ordination with Moscow.
