Joe Biden has reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting Ukraine during a surprise visit to Kiev.

The US president said a new multimillion-million-dollar military support package will be announced tomorrow, writes Sky News, Pryscopi traces.

Here's the full statement on behalf of Mr. Biden from the White House:

“As the world prepares to mark a anniversary of Ukraine's brutal occupation from Russia, I am today in Kiev to meet with President Zelensky and to reaffirm our firm and steadfast commitment to Ukraine's democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

When Putin began his conquest nearly a year ago, he thought Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. He thought he could get past us.

But he was dead wrong.

“Today, in Kiev, I am meeting with President Zelensky and his team for a broad discussion on our support for Ukraine.

I will announce another shipment of critical equipment, including artillery ammunition, anti-blandish systems and air surveillance radar to help protect Ukrainian people from air bombing.

And I will split that later this week, we will issue additional sanctions against elites and companies that are trying to avoid or fill up the Russian war machine.

“Over the past year, the United States has built a coalition of nations from Atlantic to Pacific to assist in protecting Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic and humanitarian support, and this support will last.

I also look forward to travelling to Poland to meet President Duda and leaders of our allies on the east side, as well as to give comments on how the United States will continue to gather the world to support the people of Ukraine and the fundamental values of human rights and dignity in the UN Charter that unite us worldwide”
