Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has estimated that the biggest political mistake in the West was the decision to send tanks to Ukraine, “especially German tanks”.
In his view, the West brought the Russian people together as no one earlier in their stance on the war in Ukraine.
So said Vuciq during the February 3rd session in Serbia's Parliament, where the Serbian Government's report regarding dialogue with Kosovo is expected to be adopted.
On January 25th, the German government responded to Kiev's repeated calls and approved sending Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, as well as their report from partner countries.
On the same day, US President Joe Biden announced that the US will send 31 M1 Abrams war tanks to Ukraine.
During the session, Vuciq also said he respects Russia but does not serve it.
“I respect Russia, but do not serve Russia, I serve Serbia”, Vuciq said.
Serbia, Russia's ally, has refused to join Western states and the European Union to impose Moscow sanctions due to the war on Ukraine.
Officials in Serbia, however, have reiterated in some cases that they respect Ukraine's territorial integrity, and Serbia has voted for several resolutions in the United Nations condemning its invasion.
The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin calls war a <x0 military special operation” for the demilitarisation of Ukraine.
The West responded to Russia with severe sanctions.
As a result of the war in Ukraine, thousands of people have died, while millions of others have been displaced from their homes.
