Millions of Israelites have staged protests in the main cities of the country where they have asked the government of Netanyahu to withdraw from this initiative. The National Assembly of Israel has taken a new step towards adopting the government's proposal, which, among other things, implies that the country's elected representatives can cancel the decisions of the plain majority Supreme Court.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk believes the changes will weaken the independence of the judiciary, legal security and human rights of the Israelis.
Local media also published polls with citizens' opinion on this reform in the justice system, under which 53% oppose it. But the media itself are divided, with a part talking about government support and a part against it.
