At least 42 suspects have been investigated in Turkey's southern province of Hatay for the robbery of damaged buildings, according to security sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity “due to media restrictions”.

At least 40 suspects were arrested and security forces seized six pistols, three rifles, jewelry, bank cards, about $11,000 and 70 thousand Turkish lira (about 3,700 euros) in cash, state media reported, citing sources.

Two other persons were also arrested after appearing as aid workers and allegedly trying to rob six trucks with food for earthquake victims in Hatay province.

Somewhere else in the country, dozens of other suspects were arrested for suspected robbery in earthquake-hit areas.

The suspects were arrested in at least eight provinces, including Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Adiyaman, Malatia, Osmaniye, Adana, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa.

In a video published by NOUEL, Periscope is watched by three people being beaten by local police after the same attempt was made to rob stores in the country.
