Turkey declares seven days of mourning

Turkey has declared seven days of national mourning, following the earthquake that struck the country on Monday morning. So announced Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan, who said the Turkish flag would be lowered to half-point until Sunday on February 12th, in all institutions inside and abroad.
More than 2,300 people have lost their lives in Turkey and Syria by the powerful 7.8-magnitude Richter earthquake, which hit both countries early Monday morning and after it.
Hundreds are believed to be still trapped under rubble, and the number of victims is expected to increase.
According to Turkey authorities, ten Turkish cities have been affected by the earthquake. They are: Gaziantep, Kahramanmarashi, Hatai, Osmanije, Adjamana, Malta, Chanliurfa, Adana, Diyarbakir and Chiles.
In Syria, according to authorities there, the quake struck the provinces Alepo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus.
Turkey is situated on one of the largest seismic lines and is often hit by earthquakes.
