Turkish Disaster Management and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) has said rescue search operations have ended in most provinces, nearly two weeks after this month's devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
The number of deaths due to earthquakes increased to 40,642, and the search and rescue work for people trapped under the rubble has ended in most provinces”, said AFAD leader Yunnis Sezar.
We believe that we will complete the search-saving operations by this evening”, he added.
An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit Turkey and neighbouring Syria on February 6th, killing more than 46,000 people and leaving more than a million homeless people, along with an economic cost expected to total billions of dollars.
In Syria, more than 5,800 deaths have been reported, mainly in the northwest. The figure hasn't changed in a few days, reports AlJazeera.
The World Health Organization estimates that some 26 million people throughout Turkey and Syria need humanitarian aid.
