Switzerland's Parliament Tells Yes Law Assistance Treaty with Kosovo

The small room has therefore unanimously approved Monday and without question the legal assistance agreement. While the National Chamber approved the document in December last year, with 176 votes for, 6 against and two abstentions.
In spite of this, the agreement may still be subject to a fascinating referendum, parliamentary services report.
As the Federal Council has announced regarding the treaty, Switzerland and the Republic of Kosovo are already working together on uncovering and prosecuting criminal acts based on their respective national laws, albinfo.ch submits. The new bilateral legal assistance agreement aims to simplify and accelerate co-operation.
Implementation does not require any change in the law.
The contract comes into force when the requirements of the respective countries are met, and both sides have announced each other. Justice Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schweider stressed in the Senate that Switzerland recognised the independence of the Republic of Kosovo exactly 15 years ago, on February 27, 2008.
