In this protest, organised by the far-right organisation, “People's Patrol”, the symbols of the Russian mercenary group -- “Wagner” -- were also seen. Also, protesters have cheered offensive messages to Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, writes the REL.
The head of the “People's Patrol”, Damjan Knezevic, said that no one at the leading party in Serbia, the Serbian Progressive Party, “cannot call himself Serbian”.
Knezevic also addressed foreign-language media journalists, saying participants in this event “encourage the Russian proposal” for Kosovo, rather than European, or as it is known as the Franco-German proposal, which concerns normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia.
Protesters have cheered “Serbia, Russia”. Protest organisers have called on Serbian authorities to withdraw from negotiations with Kosovo, a state that declared independence 15 years ago.
Hours before the protest, Serbia's Ministry of Internal Affairs said it has arrested two people who have been found weapons who were headed to attend the event in Belgrade.
In the press statement, a gun and ammunition were found during the arrest.
“People's Patrol”, via its channel on the telegram, confirmed that two members of this organisation were arrested.
“The People's Table” is an organisation known for actions against migrants and for organising events in Belgrade in support of Russia, after the Kremlin began invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022.
In November 2022, the leader of this organisation, Damjan Knezevich, visited Russia's “Wagner” Centre.
The organisation leading Knezevic has also made a wall in Belgrade in honour of “Wagner”.
Serbia, although a candidate for EU membership, refuses to impose sanctions on Russia and has good bilateral reports with Moscow.
