The president of the Forum for Ethnic Relations in Belgrade, Dusan Janjic, says recognition of Kosovo's independence from Serbia could happen within this year.
Serbian analyst Janjic told Euronews Albania that essentially Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq has accepted recognition, referring to chapter 4 of talks on the EU membership process.
According to him, with this move, Serbia could join the European Union in the next 10 years.
“Vucciq, essentially said yes and that belongs to negotiating chapter 4. He says the content of the document is classified, but in essence, the outcome of the discussions is recognition of Kosovo's independence. He will no longer treat Kosovo by saying ʹKosovo and Metohiaʹ, or so-called Republic of Kosovo, but will use the term, the Republic of Kosovo”.
“Achieving the agreement must be signed by representatives of the Republic of Kosovo and of Serbia before recognition is made. It's hard, but I think, given the reality, if reality is known, I don't accept that there are jams, but it can be achieved in a year. The doors of organisations for Kosovo membership must be opened. UN membership is needed. Only then can normalisation of relations come and Serbia becomes an EU member in the next 10 years”, he stressed. /Euronews Albania
