“Today, the United Nations is calling for $1 billion humanitarian aid to the people of Turkey, which is suffering from the most devastating earthquake that has hit this state in the last century”, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said.
He has said that some 5.2 million people need these funds.
“Turkey is home to the largest number of refugees in the world and has shown great generosity with its Syrian neighbours through the years”, Guterres has said.
And now is the time for the world to support the people of Turkey as they have shown solidarity with other countries that have sought help”.
