A fire has erupted at an oil refinery in the Russian region of Rostov, near the Ukrainian border, the Emergency Ministry said, according to Russian state media.
“In the Rostov region, in the town of Novosctinsk, we received a message at 10:24, with regard to a fire on the plant's territory for production and processing of oil products”, the Russian Emergency Ministry said.
The fire broke out on an area of 100 square metres and died an hour later, the Interfax news agency said.
The cause of the fire explosion remains unclear.
Novoshaktinsk is located about 20 miles [9 km] from the Ukrainian border.
Another refinery in Novoshaktinsk last June was attacked with two fears. Authorities had named this “as terrorist action from the western border”, reference to Ukrainian efforts to expel the invading Russian forces from their territory.
