Russia continues attacks east of Ukraine, fears of new offensive rise

Russian invading forces are continuing the attacks along the front line east of Ukraine, Kiev's army said on February 7th, as Ukrainian officials have continued to warn that Moscow is preparing for a new offensive in this region. Over the past 24 hours, the Russian Army has carried out six missile attacks and 24 air strikes, the Ukrainian Army General Staff said. Staff also said there have been 75 artillery attacks, including one on a civilian target in the eastern and southeastern areas of Harkiwi, Donjeck, Dnepropetovski and Herson. The military added that there have been an undeserved number of victims among civilians.
Later, Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the military administration in Donjeck, reported that one person has been killed and five others have been injured as a result of overnight promotions in the Donjeck region.
Over the last 24 hours, 1,060 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Army claimed on 7 February, even though such figures are impossible to confirm independently.
The new fighting comes after Luhansk's governor, Serhiy Hayday, said Russia is suppressing reinforcements east of Ukraine ahead of a possible new offensive.
“We're seeing more and more Russian militias being deployed in our direction, we're seeing more equipment being brought”, Hayday told Ukrainian television on February 6th.
They're bringing ammunition that's used differently than before. Now there's no continuous promotion. They have slowly begun to preserve the ammunition, prepare for a large-scale offensive”, Hayday said.
British intelligence, in daily update for the war in Ukraine, said the Russian Army has likely been preparing for major offensive in order to take control of the parts of Donjeck, which are controlled by Ukraine.
However, Russian forces have made few benefits on the ground, as they lack ammunition and maneuvering units, which are needed for a successful bid”, Britain's Defence Ministry said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces are fighting the efforts of Russian troops that have surrounded the city of Bahmut and are trying to break the city's defence.
For months Russia has concentrated its efforts to take Bahmut, located east of Ukraine. According to the media, Russian group Wagner (Vagner) mercenaries are also involved in this area. / REL
