The Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diapstore (MPJD) has indicated that Kosovo citizens, with whom they are in touch and who were in the south of Turkey, are already safe from earthquakes, while the number of victims from this natural disaster has reached more than 16 thousand.
The ministry also suggests that there are no students from Kosovo studying in the area affected by the earthquake.
The Kosovo Embassy in Ankara says a family from Kosovo is located in Gaziantep, an epither of the earthquake, and is in good health. The family has been evacuated in a sports hall because of the damage in their home. They have purchased bus tickets to return to Kosovo”, the MPJD report said.
A delegation of the Kosovo Federation of wrestling that was in Kahramanmara has survived without consequences and has left the area affected by the earthquake.
Also, a Kosovo citizen of German citizenship, located in Kahramanmara during the earthquake, has contacted the embassy and has returned to Germany.
On Tuesday, February 7th, a mother and her 4-year-old daughter have contacted embassy emergency numbers to ask for help to return to Kosovo, but have announced they have lost travel documents.
The “Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Ankara and the General Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in Istanbul remain in communication with citizens in question, to see its travel options for Istanbul and then to Kosovo”, the announcement said.
On the evening of February 7th, the Kosovo Embassy in Ankara has been contacted in the emergency number by another Kosovo citizen from the town of Gaziantep. According to the MPJD, this citizen has left that area for Istanbul and then traveled to Pristina on regular flight.
On the morning of February 8th, the embassy has received the announcement of a Kosovo citizen living and working in Gaziantep. He and his family have been rescued without injuries, and that with their vehicle they are headed to Ankara”, the ministry says.
Even a citizen of Kosovo has arrived by plane from the town of Gaziantep in Ankara, where the embassy team has received and secured a co-operation.
Kosovo's “Embassy in Ankara and the General Consulate in Istanbul will continue to continue in the coming days through official and informal channels to investigate other citizens who may eventually be in areas affected by earthquake”, the report said.
