Mitsotakis: Greece will not send tanks to Ukraine, because it needs it for itself

Greece is not planning to join a “concialation of tanks” internationally and send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, as it is needed to support its defence capabilities, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview for the Nikkei agency. “We have provided considerable military support to Ukraine, such as the personnel carriers [...]
“We have offered considerable military support to Ukraine, such as the transporters of the armoured personnel, but we will not provide Leopard 2 tanks for the simple reason they are absolutely necessary for our army”, he said.
He added that Greece is ready to support Ukraine, “but not at the expense of our defence capabilities”.
The Greek Army has some 350 Leopard 2 tanks in service.
