Macron shows that with Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Western Balkans has become the focus of the EU, while citing French companies' interest in investments in Kosovo.
The new geopolitical situation created by fighting Russian aggression in Ukraine has prompted the European Union to strengthen its political, economic and security engagement in the Western Balkans. This is what we focused on during our presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2022. In this direction, I welcome the solidarity shown by Kosovo for hosting Ukrainian refugees and journalists”, President Macro has said.
“In this context filled with threats and difficulties, I encourage Kosovo to persevere decisively in efforts undertaken to strengthen the rule of law in order to facilitate its European integration. To do that, you can count on our support”, he adds further.
Macron considers the discussion between the two states essential to continue the European perspective and that he expects full commitment from both sides.
“is also essential to resume discussions on normalising relations between Serbia and Kosovo, which is a central element for the European perspective of the two countries and for ensuring the stability of the region and the European continent. We expect the two countries to fully engage in the EU facilitated dialogue”, it concluded.
