Albin Kurti, Kosovo prime minister, has written on Twitter about the impact that Serb parallel structures in the north have on the loss of millions of euros for Kosovo.
These losses are also the result of the promotion of parallel structures for Serbian citizens in the north not to pay electricity and water bills.
” The parallel structures controlled by Serbia in northern Kosovo municipalities have cost citizens and taxpayers in the rest of the country 320m euros in unpaid energy bills and 17m euros in water supply bills since 1999”, the Kurti wrote among other things in TwitterSunday.
He has also said that <x0 parallel structures do not allow electricity billing and obstructing the implementation of an energy agreement reached in the dialogue 10 years ago. Without incentive to save, consumption in these municipalities increased by 70+% in a decade, in part due to drug cultivation and cryptomination”.
” Since 99, Kosovo has lost another 300m euros due to Serbia's actions, such as keeping tax rates and forcing businessmen to pay T V US for our electricity trade. Even now, Belgrade's refusal to allow trade in Kosovo-Serbia costs Kosovo up to 10m euros per month”, the prime minister of Kosovo has declared.
Kurt says citizens in the north are not to blame for these events, but the finger points to parallel structures.
Of course, these injustices are not the fault of our citizens in northern municipalities. They understand and acknowledge that paying for basic services such as electricity and water is normal and that this would enable the necessary investments to further improve the quality of the” services.
” They have the right to access such services and live free of organised crime, pressure and threats from illegal structures led by Serbia. My government is committed to improving the quality of life of all Kosovo citizens and offering them the freedom, security and security that they deserve”, he has said, among other things.
