The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has immediately suspended the Russian Union of Journalists over its actions since Russia began the invasion of Ukraine and the role it played in Ukrainian annexed territories. I FJ, representing over 600,000 media workers worldwide, said that [...] membership.
The IFJ, representing over 600,000 media workers worldwide, said Russian Union membership has been suspended after an investigation has been made and has been voted for suspension at the executive committee on February 22nd.
The vote was held after the Russian Union of Journalists refused to reconsider the decision to establish its branches in four regions annexed by Russia, the IFJ said.
The actions of the Russian Union of Journalists to establish four branches in Ukrainian survey territories have clearly broken... Solidarity and have promoted divisions among sister-in-laws”, said IFJ President Dominique Pradalié.
In September last year, the Kremlin illegally annexed the Ukrainian regions of Donjeck, Luhansk, Herson and Zaporigja.
Russia-backed Separatists since 2014 have searched parts of Donjeck and Luhansk.
The IFJ said it will continue to support independent journalists inside and outside Russia, and added it will help Ukrainian journalists.
According to the IFJ, Ukraine was the deadliest state for journalists in 2022, as 12 media workers were killed doing their job. / REL/
