A few days before this meeting, international representatives have sent messages that for both sides of dialogue to reach agreement.
EU Foreign Policy and Security Representative Josep Borrell has said at today's UN Security Council session Thursday that the EU-brokered dialogue for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia is at a crucial moment.
“I will expect both sides in Brussels next week and hope they engage constructively and exploit this unique option”, Borrell said at the UN Security Council meeting.
“The EU has presented a proposal to the parties that will put the normalisation process on a solid and visionary path”, Borrell has declared.
As for this proposal, EU emisari emisari Miroslav Lajcak has said the plan will not be negotiated because the plan itself is drafted by the European Union and the parties are consulted because the first draft has been split with them and we see no reason or possibility for negotiations.
According to Lajcak, the plan itself is let it go or take it!
While US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier has said the US expects both sides to push forward the EU proposal. Kosovo and Serbia must implement agreements that have signed through the dialogue process.
We strongly support the EU proposal on the table. Our expectation is that both leaders move this proposal forward at their next meeting. Through dialogue, Serbia and Kosovo must reach a comprehensive agreement. We believe normalised relations should focus on eventual mutual recognition. Progress in the dialogue will open the door of European integration and is essential for security and stability in the Western Balkans”, Hovenier said.
