EU leaders will meet today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, promising new sanctions against Russia.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen has arrived in Kiev on Thursday, following a symbolic train trip to show support for Ukraine, which is approaching the first anniversary of the Russian occupation.
The fact that this summit will be held in Kiev is a powerful signal for both partners and enemies”, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmygal said earlier.
The EU has yet to elaborate on who will participate in this summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the launch of Ukraine's invasion on February 24th 2022, and his forces have repeatedly attacked civilian infrastructure, including in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
The EU states have strongly supported Ukraine since Moscow began its invasion in February, striking Russia with a wave of economic penalties and sending weapons to Kiev. / REL
