EU Civil Protection Mechanism
There are also Iceland, Norway, Serbia, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The mechanism is used in order to prepare for natural disasters such as fires, floods, earthquakes and to provide answers to these disasters.
In addition to participating countries, the mechanism could be put into effect by any country facing any disasters. The mechanism established 20 years ago, Türkiye joined in 2016 and has repeatedly responded to various countries' requests for help under the mechanism.
Türkiye, who has previously responded to five times for assistance, has activated the mechanism for the third time with the last earthquake that occurred in the morning with the Kahramanaş epidera. The mechanism gets more than 100 requests each year.
