EU to send over 1,000 rescuers, 70 dogs to Turkey

The units are from 19 European states, including two states that are not part of the EU, Albania and Montenegro.
In total, 1,150 rescuers and 70 dogs will be sent to Turkey.
Their detection is co-ordinated based on the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Through this mechanism, countries can apply for emergency assistance from the EU and the states that participate in this mechanism.
On January 6th, Turkey was hit by two powerful earthquakes of over 7 magnitude. In Turkey and Syria, over 5,000 people have been killed and thousands more have disappeared.
