Escobar: For America, mutual recognition is the final goal of Kosovo- Serbia

The US emissary for the Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, has once again talked about the process of dialogue, association and other topics that connect with the Kosovo resolution Serbia.
Escobar has said that the United States supports a relaxed dialogue by the EU, and that his country expects all countries in the region to recognise each other.

Our policy has been very clear. We fully support EU facilitated dialogue to normalise relations. For us, mutual recognition should be the ultimate, important goal. We think that all countries in the region should recognise each other, reduce barriers to trade, should help solve some of the outstanding problems left over from the years, and move towards European integration”, Gabriel Escobar said.

I work very closely with Miroslav [Lacak], but it is still fully facilitated European dialogue. I don't participate in talks”, Escobar explained.

He added that the German franco plan is an important plan for normalisation and that both sides should accept it and begin its immediate implementation.

Before all, we think dialogue has a good plan. We now think that the Franco-German proposal we support was there when they handed it over was an important step in normalisation. It is a wonderful guide, hopefully both sides will accept it and start applying it immediately. But, meanwhile, there are many areas that exist within the Brussels Agreement that remain incomplete. One of the most important is the Association of Serb majority municipalities”, he said.

“They are willing to consider any point of agreement. They are willing to start immediately implementing and negotiating annexes, accompanying annexes. So this is really constructive”, Escobar explained.

“Reactions are normal. The Kosovo issue is a very emotional issue for Serbia. It's where they worry a lot about what this means for the future, what it means for Serbs living there. But it's an important thing that they should get”, Gabriel Escobar said.
