Belgian prosecutors have pressed charges against another Eurodeput, Marc Tarrabella, for corruption in a scandal that has shaken the European Parliament, the Belgian daily Le Soir reports.
Tarabella, a Belgian socialist, was arrested on Friday. Le Soir quoted prosecutors as saying he was accused of corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organisation.
Tarabella's lawyer, Maxime Toller, said that during questioning by Belgian authorities, his client denied having committed violations.
The so-called Katargate scandal began last December, when authorities charged four people linked to the European Parliament who have headquarters in Brussels for receiving money and gifts in exchange for favouring Qatar, the host country of the World Football Championship. / VOA
