Kosovo and the United States have strengthened democratic institutions to offer in good governance, rule of law and opportunity for citizens in both countries”, says the message of White House chief, made public by Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani's office.
Together we established “for our common values, including the support of Ukraine's people who are being protected from the unfair and unprotested aggression of Russia”, is highlighted on paper. Biden's message underscores that the US will continue to support Kosovo's integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions and the dialogue mediated by the European Union for normalising relations with Serbia.
“We welcome the acceptance of the EU's proposal for normalisation, with the ultimate goal, mutual recognition, which would help achieve a more peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Kosovo and Serbia”, the American president continues.
Kosovo declared its independence on February 17th 2008 with the support of the United States and the main countries of the European Union, but to this day, Moscow-backed Serbia continues to oppose its independence. The European proposal, which supports and the American diplomats, is the last mechanism through which an agreement on normalising relations between the two countries is being tried.
It does not foresee mutual recognition, but obliges the parties not to interfere with the integration processes. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, congratulating Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic on the day that Serbian citizenship expressed confidence that normalising relations between Serbia and Kosovo, which he said both sides should make compromises, will bring security and prosperity to Serbia and all citizens of the Western Balkans.
