Former Kosovo Liberation Army Commander Salih Mustafa, in December 2022, has been sentenced by the Special Court in The Hague to 26 years in prison. He was found guilty of unlawful murder, arbitrary ban and torture. These crimes have reportedly been committed at the 2003 detention complex in April 1999.
Former commander “Cali” was arrested in September 2020, being the first invited by the Special Court. According to the indictment in April 1999, Mustafa, along with other KLA members, was deprived of freedom of at least six persons without regular legal proceedings at the 2003 detention complex, which were later kept on guard, among other things in a locked stable, and submitted to acts of cruel treatment and torture.
According to the Prosecution, he and other members had caused the victims very severe suffering and pain in order to obtain information or statements.
The Actakuz also charges Mustafa with killing one of the six detained persons.
Regarding these charges in his first appearance, Salih Mustafa had not pleaded guilty.
