Portuguese media quoted the Albanian ambassador to the UN as saying that with these positions, Russia cannot be in this position where it blocks the UN's action in armed conflicts.
“Russia can no longer be in the Security Council and the UN”, Ambassador Ferit Hoxha was quoted by Portuguese media Observador.
According to him, Russia today is not a country that favours peace. The “therefore must be outside the Security Council and outside the UN if we have the means for this”.
The “Although it is clear that Moscow does not meet the conditions for staying in the United Nations after its Charter's serious violations with aggression against Ukraine, there are two aspects that need to be taken into account -- morality and law” -- the Albanian ambassador was quoted as declaring.
In a moral sense, of course, a country that does not respect the United Nations card and Article 2 which envisions a peace accession. Russia is not a place of peace today. Therefore, Russia must, of course, be outside the Security Council and outside the UN, if we have the” tools, Ambassador Hoxha has said.
The head of the Albanian mission to the UN has also referred to the legal procedure currently envisioned by the organisation.
The legal aspect is that we can't do this. Because to change the composition of the Council, we need not only two thirds of the United Nations but also five permanent members. So I don't see the possibility that Russia will vote against itself” said Hoxha.
Albania's UN representative was also quoted as praising that he sees no possibility of peace at this moment.
“I think this chosen war launched by Russia and perhaps by a person in Russia (Vladimir Putin) is at a sort of point without return. (...) We see that Russia is still convinced that Ukraine should not exist, that Ukraine's territory may be Russian, and they have formally annexed four new territories, besides Crime. Therefore, we see no possibility, no desire for negotiations now” said Ambassador Hoxha.
However, predicting that spring will bring news of assessing new negotiation opportunities, Ambassador Hoxha was quoted as bringing the European Union's example as the only actual body in the world to achieve conflict prevention.
The European Union's top leaders have consistently expressed the righteous role Albania is playing with this mandate at the UN Security Council, thus supporting a channel of peace-flowing energy.
