Albania's police have blocked a ship carrying 22,500 tonnes of oil from Russia.
Authorities have claimed there was information that a Liberian flag ship would smuggle a large quantity of oil into Albania and organised the operation coded “Embargo”
This amount of oil was taken from countries with an embargo on oil, specifically from Russia. The ship was launched by Azerbaijan and allegedly loaded with oil in Greece's Kallamata Proti from another ship, in a total of 22,500 tonnes of oil”, the Albanian police report said.
It is also known that the ship had no regular documentation, so a few miles off the port of Durres and 22 crew members who will be questioned have been detained.
About a month ago, a similar action was held when a Libyan ship was seized, which supplied an Albanian ship with 50,000 liters of smuggled oil to sea.
Currently the price of oil in Albania is 186mm per litre.
According to experts, Albania has the highest price in the region because over the price of an oil liter burdens seven taxes. On the other hand, the opposition has charged that the high price is also due to Albania's introduction of thousands of tonnes of smuggled oil.
On February 27th 2022, Albania has joined the sanctions the European Union has imposed on Russia.
The Albanian government has imposed restrictive measures that will apply to 654 individuals and 52 subjects. In addition, a ban on travel on Albanian territory has been imposed on persons listed by the EU. Economic sanctions include restrictive measures in finance, energy, transport and technology.
In the energy sector, the sale is prohibited, supply, transfer or export to Russia of specific goods and technologies for oil refining and will impose restrictions on delivery of relevant services. /main fan of news: illustration/rel.
