The Kosovo Journalists' Association has closely followed the latest developments about public broadcasters in the country, RTK.
AGK, considers the appointment of the Riled Gervala supporter of the Vetevendosje Movement (VV), for Albanian channel director at RTK, poses conflict of interest and seriously violates public broadcaster independence.
“Gorvalla has publicly demonstrated support for the ruling party and actively promoted it”.
According to them, his recommendation and appointment is contrary to the good practice that was created during the RTK board's selection, which was internationally praised as transparent and professional.
“We believe that a new recruiting process, on the basis of meritocracy and without political interference, is necessary and would allow the continuation of depoliticisation of public broadcasters, and would create an atmosphere where journalists could act free without political pressure.
This development will negatively affect Kosovo's ranking of media freedom”, the AGK communiqué says.
