More than 34,000 deaths from devastating earthquakes in Turkey, Syria

The death toll in Turkey and Syria following Monday's catastrophic earthquake has reached at least 34,179.

The confirmed victims in Turkey have reached 29,605, said the Turkish Emergency Co-ordination Centre, SACOM.

In Syria, the confirmed death toll is 4,574, reports CNN. This number includes more than 3,160 in areas controlled by the opposition of northwestern Syria, according to the Government of Salvation's health ministry.

The number of Syrian deaths also includes 1,414 deaths in parts controlled by the Syrian government, according to the state news agency SANA.
