Over 3,400 earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria

Hundreds are believed to be still trapped under rubble, and the number of victims is expected to increase. Rescue workers are continuing their search between ruins in towns and villages throughout the area.
Tens of thousands of people who were homeless in Turkey and Syria are facing a night in the cold. In Gaziantep, Turkey, a provincial capital about 33km from the quake's epicentre, people took refuge in shopping centres and stadiums. Also, mosques around the area were opened to provide shelter for those affected by the quake.
The death toll in southern Turkey rose to 2,316, while of those injured to more than 13,000, an official from the Disaster Management and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) said.
Also, more than 5,600 buildings were destroyed, Turkish authorities said.
Turkey declared seven days of mourning for the dead.
Meanwhile, Syria reported over 1,000 dead and over 3,400 injured.
