Based on the list of recognitions published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first country to have recognised Kosovo as a state is the Republic of Costarica. The recognition from this state came the very day Kosovo declared independence.
The following day, Kosovo's independence was recognised by the United States of America, France, Albania, Turkey, Great Britain, Afghanistan, Australia, Senegal, Germany, Latvia, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Luxembourg, Peru, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Sweden, Iceland, Slovenia, Finland, Japan and Canada.
