In an interview with Hürriyet, he tried to explain exactly what happened in the field. He claims the events occurred at the Ankaragucu-Rizespor match began with the provocation of local coach and legendary national player Emre Belozoglu.
In fact, this should be explained from the beginning. It was a normal, very good fight. Tensions were present, but reference was not bad. There were no major problems with even the tribunes. At the time of the break, a goal was scored, and the match ended 1:1. There were no players' protests, because there was no position disputed before the target”, said Meler, who later explained the attack.
After the match, after the whistle, the players came to thank and congratulate. And that was already on TV screens. Meanwhile, I saw Emre Belozoglu's hands protesting. Just when we focused on what was happening, President Koca hit me from the left-hand side. I don't know if I remember what happened after I got hit and landed on the ground. Neither the police nor the representatives have expected this. An unexpected situation because there was nothing there to show the incident that could happen. It was the coach who provoked this situation. There was no one other than him, Meler added.
When asked repeatedly if Emre Belozoglu caused the riots, Meler responded positively again: “Yes, this is something that is obvious. Let's say during the match: You made that mistake, for you I had a goal”
“But, the Ankaragcu club and fans have nothing to do with it. Maybe he planned in advance, because you know, he's had a personal disagreement with me since 2018. I think this personal thought continues now”, he explained.
Meler claims that Emre Belozoglu was laughing when Koca hit him and said Faruk Koca would never forgive what he did.
That's exactly what I'm saying, I won't forgive those who did it, nor those who did it”, Meler says.
Turkey's Arbitr indicated that he had never seen the footage of the incident and that he would not.
We remember that the Turkish Football Federation has made a decision on Koca's eternal suspension, which will have to pay a fine of 63,000 euros.
