Qalaj commends the police: In record time you're discovering criminals, government's doing nothing to cops.

Former director of the Kosovo Police (PK), Rashit Qalaj, has praised the Police for the professionalism shown in identifying and arresting persons suspected of robbery and murder in Kosovo in recent months.

He has said that no police in the world, as professional as it is, can happen that in grave cases as they have happened in Kosovo to discover perpetrators in a few days, as Kosovo Police have done.

Qalaj has said that the last two months in the country there has been an emotion increase in cases of armed robbery. As for Liridona Ademiaj's murder, Qalaj said it is a case that has shaken Kosovo and is receiving epilog because the suspect in organising the assassination is her own husband.

It's true that we've had an emotional increase in gun robbery these past two months. In this armed robbery, there has been a shooting case in the midst of robbers in this case and the Kosovo Police, and fortunately we haven't had any serious injury from Kosovo police even though two of them are injured and one of them has been injured. The first case was the robbery in the Suhareka municipality, where one police officer was shot and another injured. The second case when Kosovo police have been injured is the last case in arresting these robbers who have participated in the robbery in Suhareka. And we've had other cases that have shaken Kosovo, as you know the murder of a woman, a murder that is certainly taking the epilogue, that's because of the suspect they planned and committed the murder has been a kind of murder that pays”.

I think that in the matter of efficiency, the Kosovo Police should be highly praised for not happening often in any police force in the world, as much as they are professional in two cases of such calibre as is the case of armed robbery in Suhareka and this case of killing a woman, a mother will be discovered within a few days. I think it's a very professional job and the police have participated in these investigations, and the heads' discovery deserves the highest praise”, he said.

Qalaj, who is also deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said he is concerned about the inadequate treatment he is making to police on the part of the Government.

“Initially we as citizens in the first place and second as members of political parties, I am happy that the Kosovo Police have managed in the record to reveal the perpetrators of these terrible deeds. And the second one I am very concerned that Kosovo police are not being treated properly by the country's government. During these armed robberys and the exchange of fires and police injuries, we have not had a single ministry statement, especially the Minister of Internal Affairs or the prime minister, especially in the case of the robbery in Suhareka. The only proposal has been after their arrest that occurred days ago”, he said.

Qala stressed that the police need support not only from the Government but also from the citizens, according to him, the help citizens can donate to the police is for them to provide information whenever it needs their help.

“I think that the Kosovo Police want continued support, wants support not only from the ruling party, not only from the Government, but wants support from the people of Kosovo and popular support, is that every time Kosovo police ask Kosovo citizens for help in identifying and revealing the actors of committing various criminal acts by different criminals. If the citizen has any information to crack, inform the Kosovo Police and I think that as a citizen we have to do this”.

He said police must have support from the Government with necessary equipment and have a good salary, as according to him, police should not come to the same position to appear in protests to seek their rights.

“While the issue of support from the Kosovo government is another issue. I don't think the police have to be able to come to protest, since they have to be supported by the government with equipment, they have to rely on financial means, with a budget to get better prosperity, to get better pay. To have uniforms, equipment, logistics right to do their jobs”, he said/ EO/
