A person originally from Kosovo has been arrested in northern Macedonia.
Remzi Azem was declared in search of the murder of Ilir Hydra in Ecuador in May 2017.
He was on Interpol's list.
Ecuador's authorities had an international arrest warrant on Azem in 2021.
Police announced that the investigative work carried out with Interpol has enabled the capture of Remzi Azem.
The “arrested is pending the formal extradition process”, the police statement said.
In 2014, Remzi Azem was arrested during an anti-drug operation in the Balkans, along with 11 others, including Albanians and equadorians.
The Kosovo gang was accused of guarding large quantities of drugs in Guayaquil, which they had prepared to bring to Europe.
They were suspected of having undercover personnel in administrative ports, which enabled them to obtain container lists and select those destined for the old continent.
However, Kosovo's narco-traficiant was released after a month.
Toward the end of 2017, he received an attack in the center of Guayaquil.
This event followed the execution of Ilir Hidri, also an Albanian narco-traficiant who was operating in the town of Guayaquili.
